5th Mansfield Sea Scout Group is one of around ten Scout groups in the District of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. We are part of The Scout Association and have been around for almost one hundred years. The group is divided up into four sections, with each section focusing on a different age group. Each section meets once a week as well as doing weekend activities and camps or sleepovers during the school holidays. You can find out more about the individual sections by visiting the ‘Sections’ page.
As a Sea Scout group, we pride ourselves on the extensive use of water activities such as Kayaking, Canoeing, Sailing, Rowing and Power boating as part of the programme we offer. We have our own fleet of boats and are members of Sutton-in-Ashfield Sailing Club so we can use their base on the edge of Kings Mill Reservoir. As well as water activities, we love to go hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering as well as doing other activities such as air rifle shooting and traditional scouting activities. As well as a variety of sports, younger members of the group especially, will find themselves playing games, cooking, doing arts and crafts and more! We also enjoy doing weekend activities and going away during the holidays.
We aim to deliver an exciting, fun and educational programme that will enrich the lives of all the young people in the group and enable them to reach their potential in a safe and secure environment.
5th Mansfield is run by a dedicated team of hard working, volunteer leaders. Headed by our Group Scout Leader Tony Ramsdale, all of our leaders, in their own time, are committed to providing the skills and the experience required to provide the varied programme of activities we offer.
We are backed up by an executive committee, some of whom are also section leaders, that give up their time in order to organise and provide the necessary buildings and equipment so that the leaders can carry out the activities within the group. They help by organising fundraising efforts such as the range of social events that we organise throughout the year, and making sure the section leaders have all the resources they require.
Of course none of this can be provided without the huge support we receive from the young people, their parents, the dedicated staff and supporters of 5th Mansfield for which we are extremely grateful.
We are always looking for more support in the form of adult helpers, and if you are willing and able to spare a couple of hours per week in order to help out then we would love to hear from you. Just send us a message on the contact page and we will get back to you.
If you have any comments or queries then feel free to get in touch by sending us a message via the Contact Us page.
